Barrhead Art Club

Overview

The gallery is open on Friday and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.. Monthly workshops are offered. Artists interested in forming a club began meeting in the late 1950s in various homes and other locations (school, churches) to share their interest and organize workshops.

In December 1981 the Barrhead Art Club became a registered society. The club has progressed from informal accommodations to its present location. This location provides opportunities for art and culture to be accessible to all.

This is a volunteer run gallery that is open to the pubic 2 days per week. The gallery is a venue to display art for members, children, youth, seniors and people with disabilities in the community.

Members also display art in the local healthcare centre and businesses. Members contribute to charitable events such as the Festival of Trees and the Farm Woman’s Conference raising charitable funds. In addition to regular workshops the club provides added attention to seniors by taking programs to a local senior residence.

Each month there is a gallery show and a feature artist. A “Guest Book” signed by most visitors monitors gallery attendance. Over the past few years, an increase in attendance of almost 50% has been noticed which is remarkable for a town with a population of 4500. Some visitors leave a small donation, as there is no admission charge.

The Barrhead Art Club is a registered Society and thus not able to issue tax receipts for donations.
