Barrhead Johnson Airport

Overview

Known as CEP3. Great airport to fly in for breakfast, lunch, supper, or to play golf. Barrhead Johnson Airport is the sort of small-town airstrip that feels like it grew out of the prairie itself—quiet, practical, and built for people who like getting places without the drama. Just southeast of Barrhead, it serves as the community’s aviation hub for private pilots, medevac flights, training, and the steady hum of local air traffic.

The runway is a tidy paved strip long enough to handle most general-aviation aircraft, with simple taxiways and plenty of room to manoeuvre. You won’t find big-city terminals or endless corridors here—just a straightforward layout, a modest terminal building, and the kind of “come on in” atmosphere you only get in rural Alberta.

Local flying clubs and aviation enthusiasts drift through regularly, and the airport often serves as a launch point for sightseeing flights over farmland, forests, and the Pembina River valley. It’s also used by agricultural operators and emergency services, making it a valuable little workhorse for the region.

Think of it as Barrhead’s airborne back door: unfussy, reliable, and right at home under the big Alberta sky.
