Explore the shoreline in your canoe, fish in the trout-stocked lake, or access the OHV trail system. Tent and RV camping. Chrystina (Windy) Lake Campground sits tucked into the trees about 15 km northeast of Swan Hills, just off Highway 33 — the kind of place you stumble upon and think, ah, this is the good stuff. The lake itself is calm and compact, perfect for slipping a canoe in and skimming along the shoreline while loons call across the water. It’s stocked with trout, so bring a rod and a little patience; the lake rewards the unhurried. Campsites are basic, quiet, and wrapped in forest, giving you that deep-woods, no-rush feeling Swan Hills does best.
If you like your wilderness with a bit of throttle, you’re in luck — the area links into a broad network of OHV and snowmobile trails that run through classic boreal country. In summer it’s all sandy routes, spruce tunnels, and muskeg flats; in winter, it turns into a snowbound playground. Wildlife is everywhere up here: moose, beavers, birds galore. It’s a simple campground, nothing flashy, but that’s exactly its charm — a small, wild pocket where you can fish, paddle, roam, and breathe the kind of air you only get this far north.
